iLuv i1055 DVD player: Is this the iPod video killer?
iLuv have released a DVD player, the iLuv i1055, with a special feature - you can dock your 5G iPod in the back of it and play your videos through the iLuv’s 7 inch screen and audio system. Starting price is a quite reasonableUS $250.
And it comes in black or white to match your iPod as the image below shows it with an iPod in its dock.
From the way I look at it, it kills off the need for Apple to produce a proper iPod video. The biggest an iPod video screen is likely to be, is only 4 inches, so is there a need for an inbetween sized iPod when there’s a device like this? You’d either watch on your current 2.5 inches, or watch on the i1055’s excellent 7 inches.
Here’s the specs from the iLuv website:

Okay…. excuse me if this is a little retarded….
But since it says it’ll play DVD/VCD, that means it is reading those off the data side of the iPod, not the iTunes side, right?
So why do you need a Video iPod?
It plays actual DVDs aswell as allowing the iPod to dock in its back. Therefore you could play movies from DVD or TV shows downloaded from the iTunes Music Store from the iPod.
I don’t see this as a “Video iPod killer” at all. In fact, I think this shows why people want a Video iPod.
Apple is the only one who gets it. People want it simple. Look at the buttons on that ‘iLuv” ....yeah, that’ll sure kill the iPod…
It’s contruction looks cheap compared to the iPod, cheap plastic. Not to mention price ... 300 for the iPod, 250 for an ugly screen? 650 for a Video iPod?
See, this is akin to creative slapping their crappy interface on 7” inch screen and connecting it to your iPod. This iLuv takes all the stupid “we can kill the iPod, really we can” companies ideas and slaps them on an iPod. It goes for features instead of usability.
no, no, no. its not an iPod killer, its a conversation killer.
Battery Playing Time: Approx. 2.5 hrs
You can watch only 1.5 film
